US food giant Kraft Heinz has announced plans to invest $3 billion to modernise its 30 existing manufacturing sites to strengthen operations and expand market reach.
In an interview with Reuters, a company spokesperson said the upgrades were designed to make plants more efficient, helping reduce costs and potentially ease the impact of any import tariffs.
The investment will also help the company to create and sell new products more quickly, preparing Kraft Heinz for “sustainable, long-term food production”, the spokesperson added.
The announcement follows $400 million announced in July 2023 to construct a 775,000 sq ft automated distribution centre in DeKalb (IL). Reuters reports that the newly-announced investment includes this earlier amount.
The programme is expected to create around 3,500 new construction jobs.
