USA: Jackson Family Wines acquires Big Salt brand

Jackson Family Wines, the California-based wine giant, has expanded its Oregon portfolio with the acquisition of white wine brand Big Salt for an undisclosed sum.

Founded in 2016 by John House and Ksenija Kostic House as an extension of their Ovum Wines business, Big Salt specializes in aromatic, minimal-intervention white blends. The brand has built a cult following, particularly among younger consumers, for its ‘place-driven’ wines such as the flagship Big Salt white blend. Other products in the range include PNK Salt, Big Salt Orange Rose and Old Love.

The acquisition allows Jackson Family Wines to tap into the growing consumer interest in white blends. Chris Jackson, co-proprietor of Jackson Family Wines, stated: “Big Salt is exactly the kind of winery we want to see more of in the world. John and Ksenija have created a fresh, modern take on white blends that is resonating with a new generation of drinkers”.

Under the agreement, the founders will remain involved in winemaking and brand stewardship. Big Salt joins other Oregon producers in the Jackson Family portfolio, including Penner-Ash Wine Cellars and WillaKenzie Estate, both acquired in 2016.
