H-E-B, the US food retailer with sales of more than $50 billion, has announced plans to invest $700 million to expand its supply chain operations.

The project, which will be the company’s largest investment in its manufacturing and supply-chain division, is expected to create 720 jobs by 2028 and more than 1,200 new full-time jobs over the next decade. H-E-B has identified its Foster Road campus in San Antonio, Texas, which is more than 870 acres, as a potential location for the expansion. Preliminary plans for the site include construction of what is described as a “state-of-the-art” bakery, a refrigerated warehouse, a transportation building, and additional facilities, as well as an expansion of its existing manufacturing plant.

The company purchased the Foster Road property in 2018 and has since invested more than $445 million at the site, which currently employs nearly 1,400 partners. If the plans move forward at this location, total investment there will be well over $1 billion and the workforce will grow to more than 2,600 partners.

Commenting on the expansion, Carson Landsgard, H-E-B Chief Supply Chain Officer, said: “We look forward to advancing our plans to grow our supply chain operations, a project that reaffirms our commitment to be an economic engine for our great state. While we are still developing our plans, this will be a major investment for H-E-B that will create jobs and better position us to serve even more Texans”. H-E-B operates over 455 stores in Texas and Mexico, and celebrates its 120th anniversary this year.
