Coca-Cola, the global soft drinks giant, is investing 150 million SEK ($15.9 million) in a new production line for canned beverages at its facility in Jordbro, near Stockholm, Sweden.
The investment aims to increase capacity to meet growing demand for canned drinks, with the new line capable of producing up to 120,000 cans per hour – a speed increase of approximately 25% compared to the previous configuration. The initiative also focuses on sustainability, reducing the weight of each aluminium can by 0.3g. This material reduction, alongside new purification technology that utilizes air instead of water for cleaning, is expected to reduce environmental impact by around 700 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
Krones AG is the primary machinery supplier for the line.
Arjan Wiertz, managing director of Coca-Cola Europacific Partners in Sweden, stated: “We see a continued increased demand for beverages in cans, and with this capacity increase we can meet consumer needs even better in the future. By investing locally, we can both strengthen production capacity in Sweden and reduce our climate impact”.
The Jordbro plant employs over 500 people and manufactures the majority of the company’s beverages sold in Sweden, including Coca-Cola, Fanta, MER, Sprite and Bonaqua.
