La Menorquina, the Spanish ice cream manufacturer, is investing more than €15 million ($17.7 million) to expand production capacity at its facility in Palau-solita i Plegamans, Barcelona. The investment, described as the largest capital expenditure in the plant’s history, involves the installation of a high-performance production line scheduled to be operational by the end of 2026.

The new 1,100 sq m addition, capable of producing 30,000 units per hour, will increase the facility’s total production lines, adding approximately 10 million litres of ice cream to the current annual output of 34 million litres. According to the company, the line is unique for its ability to manufacture multiple formats, including chocolate-coated sticks, sandwiches and spirals, on a single system.

Iván Leal, CEO of La Menorquina, stated: “This new line will allow us to continue serving our customers, increasing our efficiency and competitiveness, as well as reinforcing our position as one of the leading companies in the sector”.

The expansion is expected to generate over 150 new jobs, adding to a current workforce of around 750 employees. The company, which was acquired by London-based Cheyne Capital in 2020, reported revenues of €131 million ($154.6 million) in 2025 and forecasts double-digit growth for 2026.
