Congalsa, the Spanish frozen seafood specialist, has expanded its international footprint through the acquisition of Lenger Seafoods Vietnam.
The deal, completed via Congalsa’s Portuguese subsidiary Sulpasteis, sees the company take full ownership of the Vietnamese firm from its previous Dutch parent, Lenger Seafoods Group. Lenger Seafoods Vietnam operates a processing plant in Nam Dinh, specialising in the production of bivalve molluscs such as clams. The facility has an annual production capacity of approximately 6,000 tonnes and employs around 300 people.
Congalsa general manager Luis Miguel Simarro described the acquisition as a “strategic milestone” that would strengthen the firm’s supply chain and competitiveness in global markets. The move follows Congalsa’s previous international expansion in 2020, when it acquired Sulpasteis to enhance its presence in the Portuguese market.
While the financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, the acquisition is expected to bolster Congalsa’s turnover, which reached approximately €132 million ($143 million) in 2023. The company stated that the Vietnamese site will continue to focus on high-quality seafood exports to Europe, Asia, and North America.
