Cerealto, the Spanish private-label manufacturer, has agreed to divest its pasta business to the Portuguese food group Cerealis.
The deal includes the transfer of Cerealto’s manufacturing facility in Venta de Banos, Palencia, along with approximately 125 employees. According to Cerealto, the move aligns with its strategic decision to focus resources on its “core” categories of biscuits, cereals and snacks, where it sees greater potential for growth.
The pasta division generates approximately €100 million ($104 million) in revenue, accounting for roughly 19% of Cerealto’s turnover. The transaction is subject to approval by the Spanish National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC) and the Portuguese Competition Authority (AdC).
“This agreement is an important step in Cerealto’s growth strategy, allowing us to focus our efforts on global snack and breakfast categories, where we have a deep specialism and strong headroom for growth”, said Cerealto CEO Bosco Fonts. “We are pleased to have met a new operator that is a specialist in pasta and has the capability to continue developing the business, while retaining the employment and working conditions for our colleagues”.
The sale follows Cerealto’s recent expansion in the snacking sector, including the acquisition of a majority stake in US-based Fresca Foods late last year.
