Lactalis, the French dairy giant, has signed an agreement to acquire Queijos Tavares, a Portuguese producer of cow, sheep, and goat cheeses, from Crest Capital Partners.
Founded in 1996, Queijos Tavares produces a variety of cheeses under brands such as Seia do Tavares, Serras de Penela, Damar, and Monte da Soalheira. The company is a key supplier to Portugal’s retail and hospitality sectors and offers three varieties with Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status.
The acquisition includes two factories located in Seia and Fundao and adds 120 new employees to Lactalis Portugal, bringing the total workforce to 820 across four production sites. The deal follows Lactalis’s 2024 acquisition of Sequeira & Sequeira and is intended to further strengthen the company’s position in the Portuguese cheese industry.
The transaction is subject to regulatory approval.
