Unes Maxi, the Italian supermarket chain and subsidiary of the Finiper Group, has finalised an agreement to acquire Borello Supermercati, a prominent grocery retailer based in the Piedmont region.
The transaction involves a network of 49 retail outlets, which collectively reported a 2025 revenue exceeding €170 million ($180 million). The move is a central component of Unes Maxi’s growth strategy in Northern Italy, aimed at consolidating its regional footprint while leveraging the established market position of the Borello brand.
“Sharing values, which will remain unchanged, is the foundation of the agreement”, stated Fiorenzo Borello, the former owner of the supermarket chain. Unes sales director Armando Strano noted that the deal signifies a strategic alignment between companies with complementary strengths.
The acquisition follows other significant consolidation activity in the Italian retail sector, such as NewPrinces Group’s recent deal to acquire Carrefour’s Italian supermarkets.
Borello Supermercati is described as being recognised for its community-centric approach, including urban redevelopment projects and support for local athletes. Unes Maxi plans to maintain the existing management team while integrating the stores into its broader operations, which include both physical supermarkets and an online grocery platform.
