Star Localmart, the retail venture of the Sanjay Ghodawat Group (SGG), has announced the acquisition of DusMinute, a grocery retail chain based in the Indian city of Bengalaru, for an undisclosed sum.
Founded in 2020, Star Localmart manages over 130 outlets across 50 towns in Western Maharashtra and Northern Karnataka, offering around 3,000 product lines. DusMinute operates directly within residential complexes, designed to deliver everyday essentials straight to residents.
Commenting on the move, Sanjay Ghodawat Group managing director Shrenik Ghodawat said: “While there has been an emergence of multiple grocery channels including quick commerce and e-commerce, we believe all these channels will co-exist, given the large geography and demography of India”.
“The acquisition of DusMinute enables us to foray in the urban market as so far we have been focusing largely on rural India”, he added. “DusMinute’s hyperlocal platform play in gated communities is a differentiated proposition and will give us key insights about the urban retail ecosystem”.
