Milky Mist, the Indian dairy products manufacturer, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Maharashtra to establish a new processing facility in the state with an investment of 1,130 crore INR ($134 million).
The agreement, formalised at the World Economic Forum in Davos, will see the company construct a large-scale plant on a 48-acre site allotted by the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC). The new unit will have an initial processing capacity of 1 million litres per day (LLPD), expandable to 2.5 million litres. The facility is designed to produce a broad range of value-added products, including paneer, cheese, butter, yoghurt and ice cream.
K Rathnam, CEO of Milky Mist, commented: “This MoU reflects our long-term commitment to strengthening India’s dairy value chain while creating sustainable economic opportunities for farmers and communities. Maharashtra’s progressive policies, robust infrastructure and strong milk-producing regions make it an ideal partner for our next phase of growth”.
The project marks a significant geographical expansion for the Erode-based company, which has traditionally focused its operations in southern India. According to the company, the new plant is expected to generate direct employment for approximately 800 people and will source milk from within the state.
