Central Garden & Pet Company, the US pet care and gardening business has agreed to acquire an 80% majority stake in German pet accessories and snacks supplier Trixie Heimtierbedarf GmbH & Co. KG for €400 million ($471 million).

The transaction represents a significant milestone in Trixie’s history spanning more than 50 years and is intended to support sustainable growth, innovation and international expansion. Under the terms of the agreement, Trixie will continue to operate independently under its existing management team, comprising managing directors Dirk Jessen, Burkhard Friedrichsen and Danny Bollerey. Meanwhile, Dirk Jessen and Volker Haak will retain minority shareholdings.

Founded in 1974 and headquartered in Tarp, northern Germany, Trixie employs around 600 staff, supplies over 30,000 specialist retailers worldwide and offers a portfolio of more than 6,000 products, with around 90% of turnover generated by its own brands.

Niko Lahanas, Chief Executive Officer of Central Garden & Pet, commented: “we are very much looking forward to welcoming the Trixie team into the central family and shaping the future of the European pet market together”.

The deal is expected to close in early 2027, subject to regulatory approvals.
