Finnish dairy firm Valio has announced an investment of €30 million ($34 million) in a new cheese maturation warehouse at its production plant in Joensuu.
The investment will cover the construction of the expanded warehouse expansion and automation of its operations, and it is expected to begin this month. As a result of the upgrade, cheese production will gradually be transferred to Joensuu from an existing facility in Vantaa.
Presently, the Joensuu plant produces firm cheeses under the brands Valio Polar and Valio Salaneuvos, and cream cheese under the Valio Viol name. In future, processed cheeses, such as Valio Koskenlaskija and Valio Aamupala, as well as Valio Olympia and Valio Kippari slices and grated cheese, will also be produced at the Joensuu plant.
