Canadian meat processor Olymel has announced plans to invest C$142 million ($104 million) to expand its La Fernandiere facility in Trois-Rivieres with a state-of-the-art integrated plant.
With the new investment, the plant will move beyond sausage production to offer a wider selection of pork and poultry goods. It will be converted into an integrated facility where full processing and packaging occur on site, enhancing efficiency and reducing transport costs.
Commenting on the move, Olymel CEO Yanick Gervais said: “Having this state-of-the-art plant will create new possibilities for expansion and significantly improve our efficiency, which is central to our company’s performance. The project is perfectly aligned with our strategy of capitalizing on the creation of value-added products made with meat of superior quality that’s produced by local farmers”.
As part of its operational restructuring, Olymel will also close its Anjou and Cap-de-la-Madeleine facilities in spring 2026. All employees will be offered redeployment, particularly to the newly established facility.
The construction phase will start within days, and the site is planned to be operational by spring 2026.
