Haribo, the German gummy sweets manufacturer, has announced the closure of its production facility in Bauru, Sao Paulo, marking the end of its manufacturing presence in Brazil. The site, which represents the company’s only factory in Latin America, is scheduled to cease operations in May 2026.
Approximately 150 employees will be affected by the closure. Haribo first established its industrial presence in Brazil in 2016 but will now shift to an import-based model, supplying the domestic market through global stocks and a new commercial strategy.
In a statement, the company described the move as part of a “global strategy to optimise the company’s production network”. It further noted: “The decision is definitive and will be conducted responsibly, with respect for people and in compliance with legislation”.
The withdrawal from local manufacturing in Brazil contrasts with the company’s recent expansion in Europe. Haribo recently invested €300 million ($324 million) in a new production facility in Neuss, Germany, intended to increase capacity for its Maoam and gummy bear brands.
