Belgian dairy firm Olympia, a subsidiary of Royal A-Ware since 2022, has announced the closure of its dairy processing plant in Pajottegem.
In a press release, Royal A-Ware’s said the plant’s installations and infrastructure require upgrades to meet current and future efficiency requirements, which the firm does not consider economically justifiable at the moment.
“There has been a diligent search for ways to make Olympia profitable”, the company said, while noting “the conclusion of all this research has been negative”.
The dairy plant, which processes milk from Belgian farmers, has an annual turnover of around €100 million ($112 million). Its product range included cream, butter and ice cream, as well as chocolate milk under the Chocovit brand.
The closure will affect 168 members of staff.
