Heineken, the Dutch brewing business, is investing a double-digit million sum to build a new city brewery in Eichhof, Switzerland and modernise its Swiss headquarters.
Under the plans, Lucerne will remain the long-term hub for the Eichhof brand, producing its core range alongside specialities and innovations. Following the planned commissioning of the facility from 2030, Heineken Switzerland will adjust its production structure, moving larger production volumes partly to its site in Chur. The new city brewery is also intended to act as an innovation centre for developing new recipes and reviving historic ones.
In tandem with the investment, Heineken has signed a memorandum of understanding with the cities of Lucerne and Kriens, as well as the LuzernPlus regional association, to redevelop the historic 38,000 sq m industrial site into a living and residential space.
Commenting on the investment, Marc Moser, country manager of Heineken Switzerland, said: “Eichhof belongs to Lucerne, and that should remain the case in the future. That is why we are investing in a new, fully-fledged brewery and our headquarters in Lucerne”.
