Maspex, the Polish food group, has agreed to acquire an 80% stake in Ukrainian water, beverage and snack manufacturer Karpackie Wody Mineralne. The transaction is estimated by industry experts to be worth between $30 million and $50 million.
The deal represents Maspex’s first major production investment in the Ukrainian market. Under the terms of the agreement, the founder of the Ukrainian enterprise, Serhij Ustenko, will retain a 20% stake, while operational management will remain with the existing Ukrainian team. Karpackie Wody Mineralne is known for brands including Karpacka Dzerelna, Sokowynka and Gonzo.
Commenting on the acquisition, Maspex CEO Krzysztof Pawiński said: “We look at Ukraine with hope and faith in its reconstruction. This is an investment in the future. We believe that this market has a chance to become one of the most important growth engines in the entire region”.
The transaction will grant the Ukrainian company access to Maspex’s technology and product portfolio. Furthermore, a new production plant is scheduled to open in the Lviv region in August this year.
