Mondelez, the confectionery giant, has made an A$8 million ($5.9 million) investment in new packaging technology in Australia at its Scoresby facility in Melbourne’s east. The investment marks the plant’s 50th year of operations and is part of a broader A$30 million ($22.3 million) commitment to the site since 2022.

According to the company, the automated bagging line is capable of running 24 retail products, producing multipack and small bag formats for brands such as Sour Patch Kids and Pascall. The plant operates on 100% renewable electricity and the investment is expected to increase production capacity by a further 549 tonnes annually from 2027.

Mondelez president for Australia, New Zealand and Japan Toby Smith commented: “The $8 million new packaging capability is just one part of the $30 million we have invested in Scoresby over the past five years to ensure the facility has a strong future producing iconic treats locally”.

The expansion aligns with long-term corporate projections, as Mondelez expects its growth to be split equally between chocolate products and non-chocolate categories by 2035.
