Charcuterie Artisans, the US premium cured meats platform backed by private equity firm Entrepreneurial Equity Partners (e2p), has acquired Iowa-based artisanal brand La Quercia for an undisclosed sum.
The transaction sees La Quercia join a portfolio that already includes Daniele International and Creminelli Fine Meats. Founded in 2005 by Herb and Kathy Eckhouse, La Quercia produces high-end cured meats, including its signature Prosciutto Americano, using Midwest pork. The company operates a curing facility in Norwalk (IA), which will be integrated into the Charcuterie Artisans network.
The deal allows Charcuterie Artisans to increase its production capacity, specifically aiming to boost prosciutto output by 50%, while preserving La Quercia’s traditional curing techniques.
Chris Bowler, CEO of Charcuterie Artisans, commented: “We are thrilled to welcome La Quercia to the Charcuterie Artisans family. La Quercia is a pioneer in the American artisan cured meats category, and their commitment to quality and sustainability aligns perfectly with our values”.
La Quercia founders Herb and Kathy Eckhouse added: “We are pleased to see La Quercia join a company that shares our passion for making great food. Charcuterie Artisans has the resources and expertise to take La Quercia to the next level while maintaining the high standards we have set”.
The acquisition is the latest move in Charcuterie Artisans’ strategy to build a leading platform in the premium deli category. The group was formed through the merger of Daniele International (acquired by e2p in 2019) and Creminelli Fine Meats (acquired in 2020).
