Dairy firm Lactalis has announced that the company is investing R$400 million ($73.6 million) in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in order to expand its dairy production footprint in Brazil.
According to Portal Datagro, the firm intends to spread the investment across five of its facilities in the state, with plans in particular to expand the Ijui, Teutonia, Santa Rosa and Tres de Maio factories.
In addition, Lactalis will expand its two distribution centres in Ijui e Teutonia.
The funds will be used to increase production of prato and mozzarella cheeses, whey protein, butter, cream cheese and dairy blends. The company expects to increase dairy production from the 304,000 tons reported in 2024 to 453,000 tons by 2028.
“The investment will primarily benefit President brand products, which are our flagship, but also the Italian brand Galbani, which we are launching in Brazil”, said Guilherme Portella, head of external communications, regulatory and corporate affairs at Lactalis.
To meet expected growth, the company plans to increase milk production from 900 million to 1.3 billion litres per year.
