USA: Equity fund Ahimsa acquires plant-based pizza company Blackbird Foods

Plant-based private equity firm Ahimsa has acquired Blackbird Foods, a manufacturer of frozen vegan pizzas and wings, seitan and dairy-free cheese, according to a Just Food report.

This is Ahimsa’s third acquisition since its founding last year with the purpose of backing and expanding plant-based food business operating in the US.

The acquisition will reportedly allow Blackbird Foods to expand its business, enhance its manufacturing capabilities and accelerate product innovation.

“Ahimsa Companies shares our passion for plant-based innovation and animal-free food production”, commented Blackbird Foods co-founder Emanuel Storch. “Together, we will continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible in plant-based cuisine while maintaining the quality and authenticity our customers love”.

Post acquisition, Blackbird Foods will continue to operate under its existing brand identity. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
