USA cereal maker Post has announced plans to close a manufacturing facility in Clinton, MA by August 2019.
According to Food Business News, the facility was obtained as a result of Post’s $1.8 billion acquisition of Weetabix in 2017 . Post said the planned closure ”reflects Post’s continuous improvement initiative to optimize its cereal production network and manage costs in the ready-to-eat cereal category”.
Robert Vitale, Post president and CEO, said that the North American Weetabix operations would be merged with the Post consumer brands, which include Honey Bunches of Oats, Pebbles, Great Grains and Malt-O-Meal.
The closure will impact approximately 180 employees.
Post is the third biggest cereal firm in the USA, behind Kellogg and General Mills.
