Jensen Meat, a California-based beef firm has acquired meat substitutes start-up Before the Butcher, according to an article in Veg News
Before the Butcher is the owner of the Uncut brand, which offers a range of plant-based burgers for the retail channel. Its line includes soy-based savoury chicken burgers, roast turkey burgers, breakfast sausage, Italian sausage an chorizo sausage.
As a result of the deal, Before the Butcher will reportedly have access to a $25 million line of credit, and a 90,000 sq ft production facility and cold storage warehouse.
“This acquisition validates our diversified product strategy and also gives us both the financial resources and the production capacity to support our strong growth forecasts”, said Beyond The Butcher founder Danny O’Malley. “It effectively turns us from a start-up to a major player in the space”.
The deal value was not disclosed.
