Estee Lauder, the US-based cosmetics and skincare giant, has announced it is acquiring the luxury fragrance division of Decorte, a Japanese high-end beauty brand, for an undisclosed sum. The move is intended to strengthen Estee Lauder’s position in the prestige fragrance market, particularly within the Asia-Pacific region.
The acquisition includes Decorte’s entire fragrance portfolio, featuring signature scents known for their “artisanal craftsmanship” and “unique olfactory profiles”. As part of the deal, Estee Lauder will also gain access to Decorte’s specialised R&D facility in Tokyo, which focuses on sustainable ingredient sourcing.
Commenting on the deal, Fabrizio Freda, president and CEO of Estee Lauder, said: “The addition of Decorte’s fragrance business perfectly aligns with our strategy to lead the global prestige beauty industry. We see significant opportunity to scale these exquisite scents through our extensive global distribution network”.
This acquisition follows Estee Lauder’s 2023 purchase of the Tom Ford brand, further cementing its focus on high-growth luxury segments. Decorte, which was previously owned by Kose Corporation, will continue to operate its skincare and colour cosmetics divisions independently.
