LT Foods, the Indian-origin global FMCG company, has commenced operations at a new state-of-the-art rice processing and packing facility in Harlow, UK.
The 100,000 sq ft plant has a production capacity of 60,000 tonnes of rice per annum. According to the company, the site was established via an initial investment of £7 million ($8.9 million), with a further commitment of up to £50 million ($63.9 million) over the coming years. The facility is intended to serve the UK’s £1 billion ($1.3 billion) rice market, producing both branded and private-label products. LT Foods has already secured partnerships with four major UK retailers to distribute its portfolio, which includes the Daawat and Royal basmati brands.
Vijay Arora, chairman and managing director of LT Foods, commented: “[The UK] is an important market for our future growth as we intend to make deep inroads in this market. This new facility is a critical step in achieving these objectives and furthering LT Foods’ mission of delivering high-quality rice products to global consumers”.
The company anticipates the facility will generate annual revenue of approximately £50 million ($63.9 million) within two years, rising to £100 million ($127.8 million) within five years. LT Foods previously expanded its European presence through a processing plant in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
