Lactalis, the French family business and world’s leading dairy company, has finalised the acquisition of Protein Works, a UK-based company specialising in active nutrition products.
Founded in 2012 and headquartered in Liverpool, Protein Works develops and markets a wide range of protein-based nutrition products designed for fitness and well-being. Its portfolio includes protein shakes, meal replacements, powders, bars, wellness supplements and snacks.
The firm operates a fully integrated model, manufacturing at its Liverpool facility, with 83% of the company’s turnover generated through direct-to-consumer sales. It has established a solid position in the UK and also operates across several European markets, including Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Ireland, Belgium and Italy. According to Lactalis, Protein Works generates annual revenue of around €65 million ($75.6 million).

By combining our longstanding expertise in dairy proteins and health nutrition with Protein Works’ strong brand and innovative approach, we are confident we can continue to create products that respond to changing consumer expectations in this dynamic and growing category”.
A total of 150 employees joined the Lactalis Group as of 1st June 2026, with the financial terms of the deal remaining undisclosed.
