Kerry Foods, the Ireland-based food firm, has announced plans to close its factory in Burton-on-Trent with the loss of 900 jobs, according to a report in the Derby Telegraph and the BBC.
The closure of the site, which manufactures ready meals for leading supermarket chains, reportedly came as the result of the loss of a major Tesco contract.
Describing itself as a leading supplier of added-value branded and customer branded chilled food products, Kerry Foods operates in the meat & dairy, convenience meal solutions and food-to-go sectors. Its UK brand portfolio includes Richmond and Wall’s sausages, Fridge Raiders meat snacks, and LowLow and Cheestrings cheese. In the UK, the firm operates plants in Hyde, Ossett, Gainsborough, Attleborough, Spurway, Egham, Windmill Lane, Collett Way, Dean Way and Slough, as well as in Burton.
Kerry Foods’ Burton-on-Trent factory is scheduled to cease production on 30th August.
