Iceland, the UK frozen food retailer, has announced plans to close its five-strong Swift convenience store chain, according to an article in Retail Gazette.
The Swift convenience store model was launched in November 2021 on a trial basis in Newcastle upon Tyne, before expanding to London in March 2022. Unlike its larger format stores, Iceland’s Swift banner focused on ambient, chilled and fresh groceries, with a focus on ready-to eat food,
“The Iceland logo and brand is really well thought of and recognised in London and we must never underestimate that”, Iceland executive chairman Richard Walker is quoted as saying.
According to an article in The Grocer, Iceland still has plans to expand its Local format after the first store was opened in Wolverhampton in March.
