Denmark-based meat processor Danish Crown has announced the investment in a new bacon factory in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, UK.
According to the company’s statement, the aim of the new factory is to offer UK customers high quality, traceable pork products that are manufactured in a more sustainable way and to supply bacon to the UK market.
The firm will invest over £100 million ($119 million) in the new 30,500 sq. m facility, that is going to be powered by renewable energy and use the latest processing technology.
The decision to invest in a new facility is aligned with the company’s strategy to deliver neutral meat products by 2050.
The new factory is expected to start operating in the second half of 2023 and it will create around 300 specialised jobs and produce over 900 tonnes of bacon and gammon per week.
