Just Food reports that the 2 Sisters Group has announced a multi million pound investment plan that will see the expansion of one production facility and new jobs created at another.
The result of a contract win with a “major customer”, the investment will lead to the creation of 90 new jobs at the company’s Carlisle ready meals plant, and a new 8,000 sq ft production facility at its Riverbank site.
The aim is to make the facility the “hub” for 25 ready to cook fish meals category, while also increasing investment in the potato cooking and mash processing equipment, sauce cooking capability, two production lines and new chilled storage facilities.
The Carlisle site director William Duncanson, said: “This is fantastic news for the business and will secure a lot of new jobs for the area. This announcement further strengthens our strategic partnership with our customers and it also reflects the confidence held by them in the whole team here in Carlisle.
“We’ll now be focusing on the hard work ahead to get the new facility up-and-running and get the new lines in stores for later this year”, he added.
The new facility is due for completion by September and is expected to increase volumes by 10 million meals per year.
