Some 100 exhibitors and around 5,000 exhibitors descended on Madrid’s Pabellon de Cristal at the beginning of June for the fifth outing of Vapexpo, Spain’s now-established annual event for the tobacco alternative industry.
A sister event to Vapexpo France, Vapexpo Spain promotes itself as Spain’s premier event for national and international e-liquid and equipment manufacturers, “modders”, wholesalers, store managers and health professionals, attracting both trade visitors and the general public with the promise of novelty and innovation in the constantly-evolving e-cigarette category.
Out on the show floor, there was much talk of impending regulation set to affect the tobacco and nicotine industry in Spain, in particular a mooted ban on flavoured vapes. Nonetheless disposable e-cigarettes were still being widely showcased on exhibition stands, even if longevity (in terms of number of puffs) was also being used as a major point of differentiation. As far as reusable devices were concerned, the prominence of refillable pods pointed to ongoing concerns within the industry about the issue of packaging waste.
Away from e-cigarettes, innovation was also evident in adjacent categories. A particularly notable launch in the novel nicotine category was a nicotine gum that mimicked a pouch, not only in its format and shape but also the design of the can it came in, including a compartment in the lid to store discarded gum.
Vapexpo returns to Paris next March; the dates for next year’s event in Madrid are yet to be announced.
