Consumer goods giant Nestle has announced it is expanding its plant-based food range with the launch of burger and imitation mince in the USA and Switzerland United States.

The ingredients and recipes in the new line are said to be customized to meet local tastes, to “ look and cook” like raw beef and provide a “juicy, meat-like” taste and texture.

In the USA, Nestle is launching an Awesome Burger and Awesome Grounds under the Sweet Earth Foods brand, while in Switzerland the firm is introducing the Garden Gourmet Incredible Burger and Garden Gourmet Incredible Mince. The US launches are said to be made from yellow pea protein, while the European launches are described as being variously made from soy and wheat protein.

Commenting on the US launch, Sweet Earth Foods CEO Kelly Swette said: “The Sweet Earth Awesome Burger has a delicious, grilled beefy flavor, great texture and juiciness, with the added benefit of plant-based fiber and protein. We’ve been making delicious plant-based proteins for more than eight years, so the Awesome Burger is a natural evolution of our work in this space. We’re excited for people to find out why we call it Awesome!”.
