FMCG giant Danone has announced plans to close its yoghurt factory in Parets del Valls, Spain to enhance “the competitiveness of brands” and bolster “industrial efficiency”.
“From this moment on, Danone Spain will work together with the legal representation of the workers to offer the best possible solutions, and minimise the impact on the employees of the plant”, the company said in a statement. The closure will reportedly affect 157 jobs.
The move will promote “reindustrialization” with the aim of “facilitating industrial continuity in the area and minimizing the impact on work”, Danone added.
The company said it remained committed to the area and would continue to collect milk from Catalonia.
Aside from Parets del Valls, Danone’s manufacturing network in Spain includes factories in Tres Cantos (Madrid), Salas (Asturias) and Aldaya (Valencia), according to the company website.
