Multinational bakery firm Grupo Bimbo has announced the closure of a manufacturing facility located in San Cristobal, in the Spanish city of Valladolid
According to sources, the factory manufactures cakes for brands such as Donuts, Bollycao, Donettes and Tigreton.
A second factory in nearby Medina del Campo, which was acquired two years ago from Cerealto Siro Foods and manufactures a different product range, is unaffected by the decision.
The firm is said to have cited “organizational and technical reasons” as factors in the factory’s closure, which will take effect at the end of the year and is likely to affect 166 direct and 50 indirect workers.
Aside from its two facilities in the Valladolid area, Grupo Bimbo operates nine other manufacturing plants across Spain, according to the company website.
