CJ Foods, the leading South Korean food firm, has announced plans to invest KRW 100 billion ($73 million) to build a new production facility for mandu dumplings in Chiba prefecture, Japan.
The new factory will span 42,000 sq m in Kazusa Akademia Park and will include 8,200 sq mt of floorspace dedicated to advanced production operations.
CJ Foods plans to produce its signature Bibigo mandu at the site to strengthen its foothold in the frozen dumpling sector and scale up its regional operations. The move is part of a global effort to tap into the growing international fascination with Korean culture, the company said.
Commenting on the move, CJ Group chairman Lee Jay-Hyun added: “By accelerating localization and building out global infrastructure, we can boost our competitiveness and rise as a true global leader”.
The site is expected to be completed by July, with production scheduled to begin in September.
