Russia: Bonduelle acquires frozen vegetable plant

Bonduelle, a company specializing in processed vegetables, has announced it has acquired the industrial assets of Shock LLC, a frozen vegetable company located in the Belgorod region in Russia.

The French firm said the new site’s location in a temperate climate region with particularly fertile soils would accelerate the development of the Bonduelle frozen business in Russia and neighbouring states.

Bonduelle has been commercially present in the Russian market through canned and frozen products since the mid-1990s. It established local production of canned vegetables in Russia in 2004 by building a plant in the Krasnodar region, and bought a plant in the same area in 2012. It added that the investment would enable the group to be present in Russia in single vegetables and simple mixes, which are currently banned for import by embargo.

Acquiring the site will allow Bonduelle’s annual frozen production in Russia to rise to 6,000 to 10,000 tonnes within three years, the company added.
