Global retailer Spar has announced that Spar Netherlands and EG Group have reached an agreement to open Spar Express stores at all Texaco filling stations in the Netherlands, following a successful pilot.
According to the retailer, Spar will start the conversion of around 130 Texaco stores from early 2018, planning to re-brand two stores a week with the aim of having the conversion process finished by mid-2019 at the latest.
The product range will vary according to the forecourt location, but the retailer said that the stores would offer meal replacement products, salads and soups, in addition to food-to-go and bakery items.
Spar, which introduced the Spar Express format at the beginning of 2017, said that the new forecourt stores would add to the company’s existing Spar City stores across the Netherlands, which also cater to the convenience and food-to-go grocery needs of consumers.
