Swedish confectionery firm Cloetta has announced it has shelved plans to build a new manufacturing plant in the Netherlands, citing “increased risk related with energy supply” and “issues with the permitting process”.
In a press release, Cloetta said it had originally announced the greenfield project in 2022 but then put it on hold for reassessment last September.
Commenting on the decision, Cloetta president and CEO Katarina Tell said: “With this decision we create the opportunity for a fit-for-purpose supply chain, enhance our possibility to strengthen our market presence and grow our product portfolio, and ensure continued strong consumer engagement”.
After the reassessment, it was concluded that the company had the ability to develop long-term financial and supply network flexibility without the new plant, Cloetta added.
