FMCG company Cargill Foods India has announced the introduction of an anti-counterfeiting technology to its products, so that consumers can check if goods are genuine or fake.
According to F&B News, the new technology uses a 3D hologram of Cargill Foods India to signify the authenticity of the brand and also includes an app called Mojo Tag where consumers, retailers and distributors can scan batch codes to verify authenticity.
Neelima Burra, chief marketing officer at Cargill Foods India said: “Counterfeiting in India is rising at an alarming rate, especially in the FMCG sector. A report by FICCI-KPMG suggests that out of the total counterfeit market, 65% is from this sector”.
“Purchasing a fake product brings loss to the business as well as may be a potential health hazard for the consumer”, she added. “Counterfeiting is something Cargill Foods India takes very seriously as a fake product implies losing consumers’ trust”.
The technology is already being used in the company’s Gemini cooking oil, but Cargill plans to extend its use in the brands Nature Fresh, Sweekar, Rath, Sunflower and Leonardo olive oil.
