GCMMF, India’s biggest dairy cooperative, has announced plans to build the world’s largest curd manufacturing plant in Kolkata with an investment of 600 crore INR ($66 million).
GCMMF, which sells dairy products under the Amul brand, is the world’s biggest farmer-owned dairy cooperative, with 3.6 million farmers in 18,600 Gujarat villages. It collects 30 million litres of milk daily through 18 unions and exports to 50 countries.
Commenting on the move, GCMMF MD Jayen Mehta said: “This will be an integrated dairy plant based in Kolkata, West Bengal and will have the largest unit in the world for the manufacture of curd with a daily production of 1000 metric tonnes”.
The new facility will be located at Sankrail Food Park in Howrah, and will be established in two phases by Kaira District Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union Ltd.
