Zur Muhlen Gruppe, a leading European business in the meat industry, is set to acquire Eberswalder, a manufacturer of sausage products based in the German capital Berlin, according to a report in Lebensmittel Praxis.
“Our customers have appreciated our traditional recipes for three generations and they can continue to count on this in the future”, Sebastian Kühn, managing director of EWG Eberswalder Wurst is quoted as saying.
The company is reported as viewing the acquisition as the best basis from which to emerge stronger from the structural change impacting the meat industry. Eberswalder’s production site in Britz will continue to operate as before, while the existing management is also due to remain on board.
Eberswalder group companies EWG Eberswalder Wurst and EFH Eberswalder Fleisch together produce over 300 million sausages per year. The group’s turnover in 2021 was more than €100 million ($109 million).
