Germany-based multinational cheese maker Hochland has expanded operations with the acquisition of a cheese facility in Belinksky, Russia.
According to sources, Hochland plans to enlarge and modernise the facility over the coming years. The site is set to produce retail branded cheese products as well as supplying cheese as a raw material for the Hochland processed cheese plant in Raos.
Founded in 1927, Hochland specializes in the development, production, refinement and marketing of cheese, as well as having a production site for vegan products. It produces dairy products under the Almette, Hochland, Grünländer, Patros and Valbrie brand names. Hochland employs approximately 4,200 people in six countries in Europe, including in Russia where it has produced processed cheese since 2000.
Financial terms of the transaction and information about the former owner of the new facility in Russia were not disclosed.
