German retailer Edeka has announced the acquisition of juice manufacturer Albi.
According to Edeka, by taking over Albi – one of the leading fruit juice producers in Germany – the group will strengthen its positioning in the fruit juice segment. Albi will also complement the portfolio of Edeka fruit juice subsidiary Sonnlander, the firm added.
Albi is a family-owned company that was founded in 1928, producing a range of fruit, vegetable and mixed juices sold in both cartons and glass bottles.
“The quality concept of Albi has convinced us”, said Edeka CEO Markus Mosa. “We are pleased to be able to expand the strong brand within the cooperative Edeka network in the future”.
The newly acquired production capacities can also be used for other brands and private label products and will also help Edeka to optimize its fruit juice logistics in Germany, the retailer added.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
