Germany confectionery firm Boettger Gruppe has announced the acquisition of Jahnke Susswaren, a specialist in liquorice sweets, from peer Ragolds Invest for an undisclosed sum.
Boettger Gruppe owns Cavendish & Harvey, described as the world’s leading manufacturer of high-quality tinned and jarred hard candies, with sales in over 100 countries. It noted the brand’s growth over the last few years had resulted in it already needing to outsource some of its production to the Jahnke Susswaren factory nearby.
Commenting on the acquisition, Frank Gemmrig, managing director of Cavendish & Harvey, said: “The acquisition of Jahnke is strategically important for us in two ways. On the one hand, the liquorice specialities of the Jahnke brand are a sensible addition to our existing range. On the other hand, finding a production facility close to our own site is a stroke of luck”.
“This will increase our flexibility and give us additional capacity”, he added. “In this way we are preserving existing jobs, creating new ones and contributing to the future economic development of the region”.
