Savencia, the French dairy processor, has announced it has reached a deal to acquire roquefort specialist Papillon for an undisclosed sum.
Papillon is described as a historic producer of PDO roquefort, marketing cheese “reputed for its exceptional quality” since 1906.
Savencia, which has been distributing Papillon cheese in French retail channels since 2007, said the acquisition was part of its strategy to strengthen its portfolio with high quality, locally-produced cheeses.
“It’s a matter of great pride that the prestigious Papillon roquefort has joined our roster of regional cheeses”, commented Savencia managing director Jean-Paul Torris, adding that the firm’s intention was to develop the brand at an international level.
“Our family business has always been about preserving and showcasing French cheese craftmanship, through local and PDO cheese brands such as Berthaut Epoisses, Fauquet Maroilles and Ossau-Iraty Esquirrou”, he added.
