Burts Snacks, the firm behind the Burts brand of upscale crisps, has been acquired by Europe Snacks, the self-proclaimed leading pan-European private-label player in savoury snacks, according to a report in Insider Media.
Founded in 1995, Burts Snack is predominantly known for traditional potato crisps but has also recently expanded into ridged crips and lentil chips.
Commenting on the move, Jitu Patel said “Burts provides high quality snacking and has a strong track record of delivering growth without ever compromising on quality. […] I have a huge admiration for Europe Snacks: I am convinced this acquisition will open up new opportunities, as both businesses are complementary to each other and share deep common values”.
Europe Snacks, which is backed by Apax Partners, produces and markets more than 1,000 type of extruded snacks, crisps, stacked crisps, crackers, popcorn and corn-based snacks. It supplies the leading food retail chains in Europe, with a focus on France, the UK, Spain, Italy and Benelux.
The deal is Europe Snacks’ second in the UK following the acquisition of Kolak Snack Foods in 2016.
