Dairy group Piracanjuba has announced the investment of R$ 499 million ($81 million) in two factories in a dairy complex in Sao Jorge d’Oeste, in Brazil’s Parana state.
According to sources, the unit will have the capacity to produce 1.2 million litres of milk per day, resulting in the production of protein concentrates and isolates (whey protein), lactose powder, mozzarella cheese and butter.
In total, the project will receive an investment of R$612 million ($101 million), $81 million which were financed by BNDES (the National Bank for Social and Economy Development).
Production will reported take place in a two-stage process, with 39,400 tonnes tons of mozzarella cheese and up to 7,900 tonnes of butter being produced per year. Up to 6,000 tonnes of whey protein and up to 14,800 tons of lactose powder will also be manufactured each year from the whey generated during the cheese production process.
The investment is estimated to create 250 new direct jobs.
