Uber Eats, the food courier company, is partnering with retailer Coles to establish a grocery delivery service across Australia, according to a report in the Sydney Morning Herald.
The new service, which has already launched with 40 stores in Melbourne, is set to cover 500 outlets nationwide, and will reportedly offer groceries delivered on the Uber Eats delivered within the hour. According to reports, couriers will be responsible for both picking groceries in store and delivering the orders.
The new partnership will see Coles attempting to compete with Woolworths, which has had an arrangement with Uber Eats for deliveries from its Metro60 brand since June last year.
Separately, Uber Eats and Carrefour have also announced plans to expand their partnership in France, with a new service rolling out to 20 cities worldwide by the end of the year. The product selection will be expanded to 12,000 items, while deliveries will mostly be carried out by electric cargo bikes that can carry larger orders.
