Lark Distilling, Australia’s leading single malt whisky distillery, has announced the acquisition of Kernke Family Shene Estate, in an A$40 million ($29 million) deal.
The acquisition of Kernke Family Shene Estate, the owner of the Pontville Distillery and Estate, will include 40 acres of land and buildings, a 130,000-litre distillery, a cellar door, eight bond stores, a working cooperage, and the historic stables and homestead.
Lark Distilling managing director Geoff Bainbridge said the acquisition was part of the company’s vision to become a global icon in single malt whisky.
Lark Distilling also announced plans to build an A$13 million ($9.5 million) one million litre distillery at the Pontville site which is expected to be operational by 2023. The facility will be the third distillery in Tasmania alongside the Cambridge and Bothwell sites and will contribute to inhouse production of 576,000 litres of Lark whisky each year.
